TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION OF THE CUREDIN PLACE PIPE (CIPP) REHABILITATION METHOD CURED WITH UV
1. MATERIAL
The components of the pipe liner are selected according to PN-EN 13566-4.
For UV-cured in place pipes polyester (UP) or vinylesther (VE) resins can be used. The carrier can be made of fiber glass or fiber glass combined with felt.
The supplier of the liner for this method is Poliner – company from BLEJKAN Group.
2. EQUIPMENT FOR INSTALLATION OF THE PIPE LINER
- sewer cleaning equipment (pressure truck);
- remotely controlled pipeline inspection camera;
- remotely controlled machine for milling inner surfaces of the pipeline;
- UV curing assembly pulling machine (pipe puller);
- pipe liner calibration equipment;
- by-passing unit (pumps, hoses);
- testing equipment.
3. PREPARATION TO INSTALLATION
Assessment of the sewer’s technical condition
Before starting rehabilitation, the pipeline is cleaned using a hydrodynamic sewer cleaning unit mounted on a truck. Then the pipeline is inspected using a remotely controlled camera. The video footage is used for preparing a detailed digital report on the pipeline’s technical condition. The report is a base for classifying the sewer’s technical condition.
Choice of the rehabilitation method
The rehabilitation method depends on the technical condition class and damage degree. In order to select the right CIPP pipe, after the sewer’s technical condition is analyzed, other factors need to be considered: geodetic data, ground water level compared to the base of the pipeline, motor traffic in the area, and other parameters that impact the characteristics of the liner to be used. The designer calculates the thickness of CIPP liner using the Young modulus (E) characterizing the proposed carrier.
Saturation of the pipe liner
The pipe liner is saturated with resin in controlled environment, using vacuum.
Storage and transport to the site
Resin-saturated pipe liner is stored in dark rooms isolated from UV radiation. The liner is taken from the storage place to the site in containers or boxes ensuring optimal transport conditions.
4. INSTALLATION
After separation of the sewer section, a slip film is pulled inside the section.
When the old sewer surface is secured, a pulling machine is mounted over the upper manhole, a line is pulled to the lower manhole and the liner is attached to the line. The pipe liner is pulled in with controlled speed and pulling force.
To appropriately prepared end of the pipe liner a lock for mounting a set of lamp carriages and a pressure hose is installed. Compressed air is supplied, which calibrates positioning of the liner inside the rehabilitated sewer.
After the pipe liner calibration, a set of UV lamp carriages is introduced through the lock. The lamps emit UV rays of appropriate wavelength. The pipe liner is cured as the carriages with UV lamps on pass through the pipeline with speed adjusted to the dimensions of the rehabilitated sewer and the thickness of the liner. The process is continued until the liner is completely cured and is carried out according to internal instructions and procedures consistent with ISO 9001.
After installation, ends in extreme manholes are cut off using a milling machine and openings in “blank” connections of the cured pipe liner are cut out.
During the installation the following process parameters have to be recorded: pressure inside the pipe liner during all the stages of installation and curing and continuous readings of carriage speed and UV radiation wavelength.
5. INSPECTION
TV Inspection
After the installation and opening house drains, acceptance TV inspection (including VHS or CD recording) is carried out. Inspection report is also prepared.
Tests
According to PN-EN ISO 11296-1, 11296-4 and PN-EN 1610
6. CORRECTION OF FLAWS
Flaws are corrected using a robot controlled via a camera or / and inserting and gluing short pipe sections.
